In mid April, I was welcomed by the Seattle community to speak aboutAppium at their Mobile Development Meetup. In increase to having a outstanding clip and outstanding conversation, there were some key takeaways from the meetup that are worthy of some thought. Of course, there & # x27; s not clip to summarize all the amazing conversations that I had with the rattling Seattle-ites, but here are the high point.
Peregrine testing is more important now than it & # x27; s ever been. There are few things as painful as submitting your app to the app store, have it accepted and print, so realizing that your app has a showstopper bug that & # x27; s let lots of 1 star reviews. Of course, more examine would resolve that problem, but screen everything manually is a long, slow process. So we turn to automated testing, but the situation there is little better. Between all the different frameworks (with different limitation), it starts to feel like you & # x27; re learning a new fabric every clip you need to write a trial. So it & # x27; s back to manual testing ... and the cycle repeats itself.
There & # x27; s a deep motivation for a crisscross platform prove tool.People are writing apps for AndroidandiOS now. Not but one or the other. And you & # x27; re probably being asked to try on both platform. So rather than manually quiz on every device and OS you need to back, what can you do? You need a tool that permit you write your app so you can write one test and run it on many program. It was outstanding to see people & # x27; s ebullience for Appium because it lets you run test on iOS and Android.
SUSA automates exploratory testing with persona-driven behavior, catching bugs that scripted automation misses.
Accessibility is not optional. This is a gummy issue for a lot of developer. On one hand, accessibility is a key technology for the web, and something we all ought to have in our apps anyway. On the early hand, it take clip to make in accessibility and your project was due yesterday. Tipping the scales in accessibility & # x27; s favor is the fact that nearly all iOS and Android testing creature use availableness functionality in some way to automatise the device. Much like the early days of browser automation, these labels and hooks are all that survive to permit for automating the device. So if you & # x27; re stuck on availableness, remember that it makes testing your apps easier too.
Mobile Development is complex. If you & # x27; ve gone to a peregrine meetup, odds are you leave with your head spinning. Keeping all the frameworks, concepts, and tools straight is a full-time job, and you & # x27; ve got code to write! Don & # x27; t feel bad. The mobile world is complex and moves at an astonishing hurrying. It & # x27; s worth some time to get the basic concepts straight: Hybrid v. Native apps, the major app development frameworks, and the top examination tools (like Appium!).
Windows Phone and Firefox OS can not just be disregard. While neither of these platforms has the market parcel to command a lot of attention yet, it & # x27; s significant that mobile devs keep their eyes on the future. You don & # x27; t know what the grocery will opt as the next great platform, and it & # x27; s absolutely key to keep a potent awareness of what is coming in the futurity, and how you can write killer apps with outstanding tests on that hot new platform. So important that Sauce Labs & # x27; Jonathan Lipps spent his time at GTAC working with some Mozillians tohacker Firefox OS into Appium.
Seattle & # x27; s mobile developers are amazing!I had some great conversations and spent the day after my talk hacking with some coolheaded engineers, getting them set up to use Appium. Props to Carter Rabasa for setting up an amazing meetup. If you & # x27; re in the Seattle area, check them out!
